It’s almost that time of year again. November. When aspiring writers drink copious amounts of coffee and purposely deprive themselves of sleep. It’s NaNoWriMo time. That’s National Novel Writing Month to you sane people.
I participated in NaNoWriMo for the first time last year, somehow managing to actually hit the 50,000 words in one month while still managing to keep some semblance of humanity. I wasn’t going to take part this year, but then when I was on holiday, I had a dream. It was a weird dream set in the future and I was an athletic enforcer of the law (that’s how I knew it was a dream). When I woke up all of these great ideas started coming to me and now I have a story for NaNoWriMo. One day in the far future when it gets made into a movie, I’ll be able to say it just came to me a dream. I love that.
Anyway, I doubt that I’ll make the 50,000 words this year. I have a far fuller social calendar than at this time last year, so I will be unable to spend entire weekends writing. This could be a problem but I will just have to start practicing my zombie noises, as I suspect that by the end of November, a zombie is precisely what I will resemble.
Good luck to my fellow NaNoWriMo’ers. But remember, even if you don’t write that novel this month, if it’s meant to be written, you’ll get it out of you eventually!
