Teaser Tuesday – ‘The Book of Speculation’

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! All you have to do is grab the book you’re currently reading, open to a random page and share two sentences from that page. But make sure you don’t share any spoilers!

The book of speculationMy teaser this week is from a NetGalley read by Erika Swyler called The Book of Speculation. It’s not released until June 23rd, but I’m going to call it now – everyone will be reading this and raving about it. IT IS THAT GOOD. It’s reminiscent of Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus, but where I found that book beautiful and whimsical, The Book of Speculation is beautiful and dark.

So far I love everything about it. The cover is beautiful (even though I have a Kindle version and it doesn’t have a pretty cover, I still like looking at pictures of it), there are some lovely sketches throughout, and the writing is, in my opinion, perfection. Also, it’s a book about a book, all readers love that. I’ll definitely be getting myself a hard copy of it when it’s released.

ExcerptButtonInstead of actual teaser sentences this week, I thought I’d share the link to the publisher’s page where you can read the first chapter of the book. If you read the first chapter and like it, I’d go and put your name down now at your library for a hold on it, as everyone will want to read this (I really hope I’m not talking this book up too much!). Anyway, click the button to the right to read the first chapter. I hope you like it!

  2. I remember seeing this one on NetGalley and not being super drawn in by the blurb, despite the fact that books about books can be so good! I’ll have to check out the excerpt. So happy to hear you’re enjoying it so much! 🙂 I hope the ending lives up to your expectations.

    • The ending was great. It was sort of what I expected, but still good. It kind of has two endings, one of them made me a bit sad but I don’t think it could have gone any other way.
Definitely give the excerpt a go. It’s the first chapter so it sets the whole thing up, but there’s another narrative running alongside that first one and which is (in my opinion) much better. It’s a shame there’s none of that narrative in the excerpt unfortunately.
