Teaser Tuesday – ‘Tristano Dies: A Life’

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! All you have to do is grab the book you’re currently reading, open to a random page and share two sentences from that page. But make sure you don’t share any spoilers!

This week I’m reading Tristano Dies: A Life by Antonio Tabucchi (translated by Elizabeth Harris). I’m really into obscure translated books of late, mostly due to the fact that there are some really good ones available on NetGalley from publishers like Pushkin Press, and Archipelago (who happen to be the publishers of Tristano Dies).

I usually find translated books a little bit difficult to get into in the early pages, but once I settle into the narrative they always end up being amazing. Tristano Dies has definitely been hard for me to get into so far, but I’m hoping that it will get easier the more I read; it definitely has potential. Now, here are the teaser sentences:

“I have something to confess… after I called you I had second thoughts. I’m not sure why, maybe I don’t believe in writing, writing falsifies everything, you writers are falsifiers.”

What are you reading this week?

  1. “If monsieur will leave it with me I will do my best. There is not a great deal of the postmark to be seen.” Ah–a bit of a mystery thrown into the plot. From Shouldering the Sky by DE Stevenson. Old-fashioned storytelling at its best.
