Book vs Film: ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’

One of the tasks in the Book Riot Read Harder Challenge was to read a book that had been adapted into a film, and then watch the film! As I was already doing a reread of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, I thought I’d use it as an excuse for a rewatch of the film adaptation (like I needed one). The Goblet of Fire is my absolute favourite of all the Harry Potter books and it had been a while since I’d watched the film. So long, in fact, that I’d forgotten how very different the two were and I am now reminded of why so many people dislike this adaptation so much. There are lots of differences and I could have written the longest post ever about it, but I decided to just pick a few things. Below is my very first Piktochart! That website is SO MUCH FUN and I will be looking for any excuse to use it again (maybe another ‘Book vs Film’ post – who knows?). Anyway, I’ve compared …

Books That Should Be Adapted For Film/TV

A while ago I wrote a post about my top 10 favourite book characters on screen. As I was writing that list, it got me thinking about some other books that should be adapted for the big and small screens, and I thought I’d put together a post about it. Some of the following (which are in no particular order) have actually had rumours floating around for a while about them being adapted – however none of these rumours have borne any fruit (which is incredibly annoying). Hopefully there will be some movement on these soon however, and I can watch some more of my favourite characters do their thing on a screen. ‘The Inheritance Cycle’ by Christopher Paolini. I watched the current adaptation of the first book in this series, Eragon, at the cinema when it was released and really enjoyed it (I have it on DVD too). It’s taken me a few years to get around to reading the books, but I’m finally reading them now and getting a whole new appreciation for …

My 10 Favourite Book Characters On Screen

A few days ago I was tagged in a blog hop by Lisa Hope. Lisa’s post was about her ten favourite screen characters. Unfortunately I watch more tv and movies than I should and as a result of this, I have too many favourite characters. Therefore it is a nigh on impossible task to whittle them down to ten. So I thought I’d tweak it a bit and narrow down the scope to my ten favourite book characters to be brought to life on the screen. This is probably the toughest thing I’ve ever had to do, and there are so many characters I would love to have included – and I’m sure there will be many others to hit the screen in the future which will somehow wheedle their way into the top ten. I’d be interested to know people’s thoughts on my list, and to hear what people would have in their own top ten! So please feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section. Now who shall I tag? I think I’m supposed to tag …

Coming out of blogging hibernation – what I’ve been doing and my thoughts on Muse of Fire

The old blog has been a bit quiet of late – as you may or may not have noticed. I’ve found myself very busy. I’m getting myself an edumacation through an online university, which has been fantastic as I have rediscovered brain cells that have been tucked away for a few years and which have now come out to stretch their little limbs. Combined with my baking, and my arts & craft projects (what I like to call my “old lady hobbies”), as well as work, it has meant that my blog has been left to moulder in the corner of my life (before I began getting educated, I wouldn’t have considered using a word such as ‘moulder’, how fantastic). When I started my studies, I promised myself I wouldn’t neglect my blog but promises to myself are generally the only ones I don’t keep, so for those of you who enjoyed reading my thoughts – I’m sure there’s at least one of you out there (that’s you, mum) – I apologise. Anyway, coming up in …
